Like every home product your Crusaders Air Purifier also needs a regular checkup as our units are responsible for the health and well-being of your family and loved ones.

The filters in Crusaders air purifier are rated for up to 3,000 hours of operation. But this number may come down significantly if you are living in a heavily polluted urban environment, or near an industrial township or in a smoking environment.

Here are some points to remember that can help you identify faulty filters and how to take action.

Different air purifiers come with different mechanisms for air filter change and maintenance. Hence, the life of the HEPA and activated carbon filters is subject to their quality. High-quality air purifiers from brands like Crusaders have air filters, which can last up to a year or even more (depending on usage pattern) before needing a replacement.

Air Purifier HEPA Filter Replacement

The high resistance particulate air filter (HEPA) is the most advanced air filtration product in the world as it filters dust particles as small as 0.3 microns, the HEPA filters in Crusader Air Purifiers can filter particles unto 0.1microns. The HEPA filter is used to protect from hazardous PM2.5 particles, making it a critical working part of your air purifier.

To check the HEPA air filter health you can open the unit and visually inspect it. If the filter has changed color from white to a dark grey or black color, then replacement is immediately needed.

HEPA filters cannot be vacuum cleaned or washed. The basic material of HEPA is such that it traps fine particulate matter in its pores and glass fiber material and it cannot be cleaned or washed and has to be replaced once it turns dark grey or black color.

Any company claiming the life of HEPA for 2 years or any additional number of years is actually not being honest with you. Cause if you use the Air Purifier, it has to trap particulate matter in HEPA and thus no filter can last you for years together if you use the purifier regularly every day for 8-10 hours.

HEPA FILTER LIFE is one of the most common false claims to lure a customer and the customer needs to be smart to check the thickness and material quality of HEPA on a physical inspection or comparison including its grade test certificate from a lab before taking a decision.

Replacing the Activated Carbon Filter

The second most important part of your Crusaders Air Purifier filter setup is the Activated Carbon Filter. It removes gaseous elements, odors and volatile organic compounds (VOC’s) like formaldehyde, carbon monoxide, and nitrogen dioxide from the air. Usually, the activated carbon filter should be replaced after 3,000 hours of use. But nowadays people are using air purifiers 24 hours a day to escape bad air quality in urban cities, so the actual service life can vary. Our Air Purifiers come with filter replacement indicators (timer based), which can help you identify an old filter and replace it promptly.

The Activated Carbon filter is a very important in all the air purifier systems, but it can only last for a short time. This is because of the adsorption process that increasingly fills up the pollutants inside the activated carbon bed. Once the bed is saturated, the filter can no longer be capable of taking in more pollutants.

You can re-activate the Carbon filter because of the porous nature of activated carbon, this air filter can be recycled by putting it under the sun for a couple of hours every 2-3 months. However, you can only reuse the Activated Carbon filter for a maximum of 3-4 times like this, then you must replace the carbon filter so it can work against the smoke, odors and chemicals.

You can’t wash your carbon filter and it should be kept away from high moisture as that can be damaging to the porous nature of activated carbon.

Also an important point to note in a carbon filter is how densely it is filled and you should not be able to see through that easily.

Washable Pre-Filter

The pre-filter used in air purifiers is meant for extending the efficiency and life of the two main filters. Check the filter every 20-25 days for dust and debris to ensure smooth airflow inside the unit. If the pre-filter gets damaged, get a replacement promptly to protect the HEPA and activated carbon filter.

Photo-Catalyst Filter

The TiO2 coated fiber material is layered on the Carbon filter towards the exit side so that when activated with UV rays it gets charged with OH radical and helps in neutralizing pathogens like bacteria viruses and even works as an oxidation layer for harmful Sox and NOx gases present indoors.

This filter is changed as a part of the complete filter housing along with HEPA and Activated Carbon filters.

Here are a few tips to extend the life of your air purifier filters:

  1. Keep the area around the air purifier clean. Switch off the purifier during regular daily sweeping and moping of the floor.
  2. Clean the air inlets and insides of the unit with a little wet microfiber cloth once every 2 months to keep dust and debris from accumulating inside the air purifier.
  3. Place the purifier in an open area for free inflow and outflow of air.
  4. Make sure that the air purifier is used in a closed space, otherwise, the filters may get worn much sooner.

Crusaders Technologies India Pvt Ltd. has tried to keep the cost of the filter set of Pre Filter + HEPA filter + Activated Carbon filter + TiO2 Catalyst filter or a 4-in-1 filter set very economical. Our Ionizers and UV LED’s have a life of at least 10,000 hours and do not need a change for a few years.
